Luke Shaw injury news: The Manchester United defender suffered a horrific injury during England’s match against Spain.

English defender Luke Shaw suffered an injury after collision with Spain’s Dani Carvajal during Nations League match last night. Shaw had to be stretchered off the pitch after receiving medical treatment.

Shaw made his first appearance for England since March 2017, and set Marcus Rashford up for England’s opening goal of the match.

The Manchester United footballer suffered a leg injury in 2015 and spent a whole season on the sidelines, and only fully recovered this year. He was named the club’s Player of the Month for August, and subsequently received an England call-up.

Shaw collided with Dani Carvajal while attempting an ariel challenge and landed heavily just after half time.

England’s manager, Gareth Southgate stated in the post-match interview that Shaw needs to be “assessed,” although the defender was up and talking.

The defender has also commented on his injury, and took to Twitter to share his thoughts with the fans. Luke Shaw wrote, “Thank you for all the love and support I am doing fine and am in the best hands. I’m a fighter so I will be back soon!”

Earlier this week, he talked about the leg-injury he suffered against PSV Eindhoven in 2015. He stated that he ‘nearly lost’ his leg as a result. The injury resulted in his eleven-month absence from professional football. He further suffered a groin-injury which led to two operations, which further prolonged his time on the sidelines.

England will play Switzerland in their second and final match of this month’s international break.
