The third day of the ongoing second Test between Australia and India at Perth witnessed some quintessential dramatic moments. From riveting sequences with the bat and ball to heated exchanges and actions, the match witnessed some intense happenings today.
In the midst of all the drama was India captain Virat Kohli. Right from him batting during another potential game-changing innings to him taking the field with oodles of energy and words for the opposition, Kohli was in the face of the opposition throughout the day.
After he completed his 25th Test century, Kohli received standing ovation from the crowd. However, his subdued celebration didn’t see him thanking the crowd. Kohli had put on display ‘Bat does the talking‘ celebration, not laying enough emphasis on the audiences.
While people expected Kohli to at least thank the audiences, it didn’t happen. Given his controversial way of getting out, Kohli was once again heated up when he was clearly unhappy with the umpire’s verdict.
It was followed by Kohli engaging with the crowd while fielding. While he asked the Indian fans to cheer for the team, he was seen making furious gestures to perhaps some Australian fans after Australia middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh (5) got out.

Speaking during the press conference post the day’s play, Lyon was asked about Kohli’s conduct first up. While many people present would be expecting a fierce answer from Lyon, he seemed to be unaffected about the opposition captain’s on-field behaviour.
“Virat Kohli is a great player and he plays with emotion. But how he reacts or conducts himself on the field doesn’t concern us,” Lyon was quoted as saying to the media.
During the business end of the day, Kohli was constantly seen in Australia captain Tim Paine’s ears. Asked about it, Lyon replied, “Tim was just asking where he [Kohli] is going for dinner…”
With Australia 175 runs ahead in the match (with six wickets in hand), one can expect a thrilling day of cricket lined up in tomorrow.
