Malik and Ajmal drop catch

Malik and Ajmal drop catch: In a talk show, Malik recalled the funny incident which till date remains a watchable video.

During the third ODI of West Indies’ tour of UAE in 2008 at Abu Dhabi, Pakistan had defeated West Indies by 31 runs to whitewash the series 3-0. The match is also remembered for one of the most laughable incidents in cricket involving Shoaib Malik (the then Pakistan captain) and Saeed Ajmal.

It all happened on the second delivery of the sixth over of the West Indian chase (274 to win) when their captain Chris Gayle hit a delivery high in the air. In which was a clear chance to affect a dismissal, the ball ended up landing between Malik and Ajmal as none of then attempted the catch in anticipation of the other going for it.

In which was a major case of miscommunication, it ended up being a video clip which allured a plethora of funny reactions. Watch the video below:

In an episode of ‘Voice of Cricket’, Malik let out that this video was the subject of discussion between him, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh after the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017. After the final got over, images of the trio sharing a laugh had gone viral on social media.

Malik started by saying that Kohli asked him about what Ajmal said to him after the ball fell in between both the fielders. “Virat yeh puch raha tha, catch to theek hai aap logon ke beech mein gir gaya. Lekin aapko Saeed Ajmal ne kya bola?,” Malik was quoted.

“Catch to khair gir gaya us waqt. Woh tha bhi Chris Gayle ka catch. Aur woh hame peet bhi rahe the. Main usko kaha, ‘yaar! aapne joh yeh position banayi, ki mein catch karne laga hu, toh aap phir haath kyun peeche kar liye? (It was the catch of Gayle that was spilt back then and he was going hard after us. I asked Ajmal why he got into that catching position if he had to bail out at the last moment.),” Malik said he asked Ajmal.

“Woh kheta hai, mein aapke neeche iss liye baitha hua tha ki agar aap se catch chhot jayi, toh mein use neech se pakad lu (Ajmal said that he was backing up for me. He said if in case, I drop the catch, he was waiting to grab it immediately.),” Malik told about Ajmal’s reply.
