Manchester United are in familiar grounds. A thumping start to the season has been followed by a draw and a loss leaving the Red Devils with a sinking feeling that has plagued them and their fans ever since Sir Alex Ferguson hung his boots.

New recruit, Harry Maguire was phenomenal against Chelsea and even earned the man of the match award. However, things haven’t looked up for the most expensive defender since. He was dribbled past in the match against the Wolves and looked absolutely clueless against Crystal Palace.

Harry Maguire was bought in to the Old Trafford to fix a backline that was prone to leaking goals. United though, have now conceded 3 goals in the last 2 matches. This has naturally led to criticism from several sectors. However, it his attempt to build play from the back that has generated much online mockery.

A fan has posted a video of the aforementioned attempt to build play from the back on twitter with the caption:

Maguire runs like he’s answering the phone whilst wearing a towel.

One could argue that this brings the imagery of Homer from the Simpsons to mind. The scene where he actually does answer the phone while wearing a towel.

To be fair to the Englishman though, it is hard to glide on the field with a physical structure like he does. It is however, foolhardy for him to go so far ahead and lose the possession in the manner that he does in this video.

Maguire simply does not have the pace to get back on the counter. He is best suited to playing the waiting game and using the temperament he is often praised for. Something that will be put to test when United travel to Southampton this weekend for their Premier league match.
