2019 has been very cruel to Lionel Messi. Despite racking up 50 goals and 19 assists last season, he has been the subject of much ridicule. A lot of that has to do with the way Barcelona lost both the Copa Del Rey final and the Champions League semi-final. This despite looking like they would come out runaway winners in both.

If that wasn’t enough, Messi had a lacklustre Copa America. Argentina reached the semi-final of the multination tournament. However, Messi had very little to do with it. He became a subject of much mocking once again after putting the blame on the pitches for his dismal performance. What followed after was abject tragedy.
Copa America disaster
Lionel put on his best performance of the tournament against eventual winners Brazil in the semi-final only to be undone by poor refereeing. Argentina then faced Chile in the 3rd place match. The La Albiceleste won the match but Messi was given his marching orders from the match after a harsh call that deserved a yellow card at most.
Understandably upset, Messi refused to be a part of the medal ceremony and called the competition a sham. A corrupt tournament that was fixed for Brazil to win. What followed was, as you can guess, even more ridicule and criticism.
Barcelona began their pre-season but Lionel Messi wasn’t with them. He was given time off to rest. Messi has since looked at peace with himself. Whether it be playing football with fans at a beach or playing piggy in the middle with his children and dog. However, yet another incident has now cropped up that has shown the Argentine lose his calm in what is starting to look like a habit now.

Considered one of the calmest footballers in the world, video footage has come out that shows Messi be restrained by security guards as he looks to head towards a possible altercation with a guy in a party in Ibiza.

It is unclear as to who instigated the fight or what actually happened there. What is clear though, is that Lionel Messi has lost his cool again. Maybe the pressure of being the best in the world is finally getting to him. Hopefully, the Argentine magician will come out of all of this stronger and better.
Messi is currently in Ibiza. He will stay there until Wednesday and then join Barcelona ahead of the La Liga.
