Man Utd have a Europa League record in sight in their next match vs Astana. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his boys may be struggling in the Premier League but the Europa has been a different story for them.

Manchester United’s struggles in the Premier League is well known. At this point, a top 4 spot looks grim especially considering the 7-point difference between the 4th and 5th place sides while United sit at 9th place after 13 matches.

United fans desire to see their side compete at the highest level against the best teams in Europe and the world. However, a 6th place finish last season, has seen their team turn out on Thursdays in the Europa League this season.

To get back to the Champions league, United will have to either secure a top-4 finish or win the Europa League. While a top-4 finish looks unlikely at this stage, their Europa League campaign has looked better with every passing match. So much so, that they now stare at setting a new record this Thursday.

With 3 wins and a draw, Manchester United have already secured a place in the knock out stages of the Europa League. In their 4 matches, United have scored 4 goals but more amazingly, they are yet to concede a single one.

No side in the history of the competition has ever kept a clean sheet in each of their opening five group stage games in a campaign in the competition. The fact that Astana have failed to win their last 6 Europa League matches and have only scored once in the competition so far bodes well for the Red Devils.

In what has been a season full of ups and downs with mostly downs, a record like this, if they achieve it, could help the players boost their morale ahead of more testing fixtures and help the club in the long run; or it could just be a consolation prize in a disastrous season. We will find our answers come April.
