Romelu Lukaku: Striker takes sly dig at Man Utd while comparing with Inter Milan

Romelu Lukaku has taken a dig at Manchester United while comparing the training sessions with his new club Inter Milan.

Romelu Lukaku said it’s all about ‘real and hard work’ in Inter Milan training sessions, compared to Manchester United. The former Chelsea striker played under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar during his two-year stint in Old Trafford.

He was deemed surplus to requirements by Solskjaer, who preferred the academy graduate Marcus Rashford through the middle. This forced him to ponder offers from other clubs.

After weeks of negotiations, the Italian club attained success after matching the Red Devils price tag to lure one of the best goalscoring strikers in Europe over the last five years. The Belgian striker completed a £74 million transfer to the Nerazzurri last week, following Antonio Conte’s relentless pursuit.

The 26-year-old said Conte’s training is more pain gruelling than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sessions.

“It’s hard man,” the Belgium striker said when asked about Inter’s training sessions.

“It’s different. In England, it’s a lot of work. But over here, it’s real work.”

Lukaku added: “The city is nice. I don’t mind, I didn’t come here to live. I came here to help the team achieve something.”

The salad diet seems to be working as the striker scored four times against Serie D side Virtus Bergamo in a pre-season friendly game.

Lukaku completed his switch to Inter Milan on Deadline Day and he revealed last season that Serie A is a league he’s always wanted to play in.

“When I left Chelsea I had the opportunity to go to Juventus,” he said in April.

“I don’t know why, but I didn’t feel it. Something didn’t convince me. The next day, Conte left Juventus.

“Serie A is a dream, it would really be a dream. I hope I can play there at some point, although right now I’m focused on United and finishing fourth.

“It was the UEFA Cup Final between Inter and Lazio [in 1998]. When I saw how Ronaldo rounded the goalkeeper I realised that if I wanted to become a professional, I would have to train very hard.”

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Romelu Lukaku will be hoping to get off to a flier when Inter Milan meet Lecce in the opening weekend of the Serie A season.
