Manchester United need a managerial change after a disastrous start to the Premier League campaign.
Manchester United have made a horrendous start to the new Premier League season. It was all smiles following the 4-0 defeat of Chelsea in the opening day, but the script has been vice versa ever since.
The Red Devils have procured just nine points from opening eight games and it has been all wrong since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the hot seat on a permanent basis. They have secured qualification to the next round in the league cup, but face a daunting task against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, who have been at their best. The Manchester side also secured a victory on day one in the Europa League, but held Alkmaar away with zero shots on target.
The recent defeat to Newcastle United showcased their downhill confidence and lack of chopping in tactics. They press high up the pitch and run out of steam in the early moment of the game and their defensive shape hasn’t been great.
Manchester United needs a new manager. With the international break currently, the club would be evaluating options.
We shall look at three possible options who change could elevate them to success once again.
#3 Quique Setien:
Quique Setien looks destined to replace Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona. Sergio Busquets has been publicly flirting with the experienced campaigner, whose boasting tactics came into limelight with Real Betis.
The 61-year-old is currently unemployed after getting fired by the Spanish club over the unsuccessful attempt of luring Champions League for the second consecutive season. The Spaniard was heavily backed in the transfer window, but he failed by a huge margin, finishing 10th last season.
Quique has never managed to a big club before, but his man-management can bring the best out of the current Manchester United squad. He also plays attractive football and could solve the crisis on a long-term basis. The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Fred, and Harry Maguire would be benefitted should the Red Devils appoint him.
#2 Laurent Blanc
Laurent Blanc spent two years as a player between 2001 and 2003 at Manchester United. The Frenchman knows the club to a certain extent and could have an effect should he be appointed as the new manager.
The 53-year-old has good experience to back up this claim – having won the league thrice in a row with Paris Saint Germain before getting fired in 2016 over the lack of success in the European competition. Despite his title-winning habit in Parc Des Princes, Blanc steered underdogs Bordeaux to the league title. He also managed France, but failed to pick up crucial results.
For some weird reason, Laurent Blanc has been unemployed over the last three years. He can help this side on a short-term basis and could solve the goalscoring problems as he’s known for his attractive style of play. If provided with an opportunity, Blanc will take it without second thoughts.
#1 Massimiliano Allegri
Massimiliano Allegri doesn’t need an introduction because of his stellar CV with Juventus and AC Milan. The Italian has won the league title six times out of nine attempts, including six with the Old Lady.
The former AC Milan manager is currently looking for a new job and would gladly accept a role at Manchester United. Allegri is not a passive coach, but builds a strong core in the backline and plays defensive football rather than attacking at full-throttle. The Red Devils does not possess any world-class defenders and it would require a huge amount of money to revamp the squad.
With four to five players, Allegri could work wonders with the current squad, who are struggling to find a way to break down teams. He can be a good appointment if he’s backed enough and the board allow him to choose his targets. Jose Mourinho was critical about the board, but fans have short-term memories because the center-backs Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, who were signed by Jose Mourinho, weren’t able to elevate their defence. On the other hand, Allegri would be a good solution, be it long-term or short-term.
