Man Utd team news: Major boost as 2 United stars back in squad vs Manchester City

Man Utd team news: Manchester United received a major boost ahead of the game against City as two first-team stars return for the clash.

Manchester United will return to action on Wednesday night as the side takes on Manchester City in a significant Premier League clash.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the United manager, would want his players to step up after an embarrassing display at Goodison Park, where Everton emerged 4-0 winners.

Manchester City, meanwhile, cannot afford to drop points as Liverpool have been equally relentless in their pursuit for a Premier League title. A loss against United would put City at second place in the league.

Solskjaer interacted with the media ahead of the Manchester derby, and the Manchester United squad for the game was revealed after the conference.

Man Utd team news:

There are two major arrivals in the squad for the game against City.

While Luke Shaw returns to the side after serving a two-match suspension, Ander Herrera has also returned to the squad. However, he faces the race to be fit and pushing himself to be available for the final 18 for the game.

“Luke’s been very good,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s disappointed that he’s missed the three games that he has. He knows he has to improve on that.”

The manager further added that Luke Shaw has been “one of the best” players at Manchester United since his arrival.

“Some of his yellow cards weren’t yellow cards but some of them are his fault where he’s taken the easy option. We’ve spoken about that.

“It’ll be great to have him back because, both defensively and in attack, he’s been one of our best players,” Solskjaer stated.

Here’s the full squad for the game:

De Gea, Romero, Grant, Dalot, Darmian, Bailly, Valencia, Young, Jones, Shaw, Lindelof, Rojo, Smalling, Ander Herrera, Fred, Matic, McTominay, Pereira, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford.

Manchester United gained a lifeline after Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea – all dropped points in their games in the last week’s fixtures. A win against Manchester City could bring them back in fight for the top-4 race.
