Harry Maguire to Man Utd : Manchester United wrap much speculated signing of the transfer window by finalizing a £80 million record deal.
Manchester United were in a major need of a defensive reinforcement this summer, and they were targeting to land Harry Maguire from Leicester City. However, astronomical demands by the Foxes delayed the negotiations.
In the end, Manchester United had to accept the atrocious demand made by Leicester City and have agreed to pay £80 million for the English International, making him the most expensive defender in the history by out-beating Virgil Van Dijk’s £75 million transfer to Liverpool last summer.
The two clubs reached agreement on terms for the player which meet Leicester’s requirement for money up front and add on fees likely to follow.
This was a necessity buy for the Red Devils, as the crisis in their defensive setup had costed the Champions league qualification after the last season’s Premier league standings.
Thus, Manchester United desperately needed a proven centre-back this summer. Initially, the English giants targeted Kalidou Koulibaly but his buyout price of £150 million, instantly made him out of reach.
So, Manchester United were only left with Maguire as a viable option, who has a proven track record in the Premier league, which also led to increase his in his price.
Presently, this is going to be Manchester United’s third signing of the summer, as the Red Devils have already bought Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively.
The 26-year-old was left out of the Leicester squad to play the Serie A club Atalanta at the King Power on Friday night. At the moment, the further details of any personal agreement and medical are awaited.
