Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is targetted by the English outfit Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been extending his wishlist since he took over the club on a permanent basis in December. The Norwegian International has reinstated the club’s ideologies back and wants to upgrade his squad in the forthcoming transfer window.
Taking over the club on the permanent basis last week, Solskjaer has demanded his players to challenge for the Premier League trophy next campaign. The 46-year-old’s demands are off the pitch also as he aims to bring in new faces to the club and match board’s ambitions with a view of the long term.
It is also understood that the club have identified three primary positions to fill the loophole. Center-back, central midfielder and right winger are the three positions which heads on Solskjaer’s shortlist. Kalidou Koulibaly, Milan Skriniar, Douglas Costa, and Jadon Sancho have the players linked with the Red Devils.
Thomas Partey is another player on Manchester United’s radar, says the Spanish publication Marca. Atletico Madrid midfielder has not featured as he would have wanted this campaign, starting just 16 times in the La Liga this campaign. Diego Simeone does not see him as the pivotal player of the squad and the Ghanian International could be available for a fee of 50 million euros.
On Monday, GhanaWeb published an article saying the player and Manchester United are keen on each other.
The original source was Ghana’s CitiNewsRoom and they stated: “Manchester United have identified Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey as a summer transfer target, as the Red Devils seek to beef up their midfield options.”
They then added: “According to sources close to the player, the Ghanaian is very keen on a move to Old Trafford as he wants to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.”
Manchester City and Arsenal were the other clubs to express interest in him, but Ander Herrera’s potential move to Paris Saint-Germain could prove to be decisive. The Spanish International is a free agent and will be allowed to speak with the foreign clubs. Coupled with Ander Herrera’s departure, Fred has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford since his summer move in 2018. This might pay the way for Partey.
Thomas Partey has been impressive for Diego Simeone’s side and he could be tempted about the prospect of joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer.
