Manchester United team news vs Huddersfield: Solskjaer is set to play his first game at Old Trafford as the side takes on Huddersfield.

Manchester United are currently 6th in the Premier League. The side is 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

The club parted ways with Jose Mourinho last week, replacing him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who assumed the position of interim manager until the end of the season.

The manager began his managerial career at Manchester United in emphatic fashion, as the side registered a 5-1 win over Cardiff City. This was also the first time when United scored five goals in a league game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell match in 2013.

The side will now play against Huddersfield Town in the Boxing Day fixture later this evening. However, Solskjaer could face selection issues as a key first-team player might be unavailable for the game.

Manchester United team news vs Huddersfield:

Solskjaer made a perfect start to his campaign for Manchester United as he led the side to a 5-1 win against Cardiff City. The game saw the return of Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial in the side, but it has now been reported that the latter might not feature in the game later tonight.

According to Manchester Evening News, Anthony Martial was not seen with the squad as they travelled to Lowry Hotel before the clash at Old Trafford.

In the defence, the situation of Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo will be assessed, while Romelu Lukaku remains unavailable. Alexis Sanchez is also recovering from his injury and is out of contention for the game against Huddersfield.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted at a rotation of the squad earlier in the press conference. In the previous game against Cardiff City, Manchester United had Fred, Andreas Pereira and Fellaini on the bench.

As the busy festive schedule awaits the side, the manager is expected to rotate his first-team players. It has also been reported that Angel Gomes has been included in the squad for the Huddersfield clash.

What next?

Manchester United are currently 8 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the table.

The side will take on Bournemouth in the final game of the year at Old Trafford.
