Marcelo makes a last-ditch tackle to prevent Lionel Messi from scoring in El Clasico and celebrates wildly during Real Madrid vs Barcelona on Sunday night.

Real Madrid find themselves atop the La Liga after defeating Barcelona on Sunday night. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring in the 71st minute to give his side the lead. The visitors could have very well pulled one back shortly after when Lionel Messi found himself one on one with Los Blancos keeper Thibaut Courtois.

However, veteran left back Marcelo had other ideas as he sprinted to the back and caught up with the Argentine before putting in a last-ditch slide tackle that prevented what could have easily been the equalizer. He then rose and celebrated as if he had just scored a goal, bringing the crowd back to life.

The challenge was very important for the hosts. A Barcelona equalizer could have very likely resulted in dropped shoulders and possibly even a defeat. Instead, it was Barcelona who lost the plot and conceded another goal in extra time to lose the match 2-0.

With this win, Real Madrid are now one point clear at the top. With 12 more matches to go, they will aim to not concede the top spot anymore in a bid to win their first La Liga title in 3 years.
