Matthijs De Ligt to Barcelona

Matthijs De Ligt is reportedly ready to reject offers from other European clubs to join Barcelona.

Barcelona are currently looking to strengthen their squad, even more, to compete for every available trophy. Former Bordeaux defender Jean-Clair Todibo has already joined the club in January, whilst Frenkie De Jong will be integrated with the squad after the completion of this season.

The Dutch International, who was told to make a promise to knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League has achieved that foot successfully and has already won over the board’s demand already. Frenkie De Jong could be paired up his current Ajax teammate Matthijs De Ligt at Nou Camp in the future.

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Ajax Skipper has decided to snub offers from other European clubs in order to join Barcelona in the future. There is no doubt that De Ligt is one of the prized assets in European football currently, but the price tag will remain an issue for the Blaugrana unless they cash in on their stars.

His interest in moving to Catalonia increased after the comments of Barcelona’s club president Josep Bartomeu. He said that he always has an eye on the talents and will be interested in taking these kinds of players to the club.

“His name is on the table” when Josep Bartomeu was talking about De Ligt, adding, “Where there is such talent away from Barcelona, we’re always looking at them.”

In the stands of the Bernabeu, Ramon Planes and the father of Bojan Krkic, to monitor the already-signed De Jong, and De Ligt’s performances.

On the latter, they saw a player who, despite his youth, is vital for Ajax and Holland and ready to stay among the elite in his position for the next decade.

REPLACEMENT FOR PIQUE?

Barcelona see Matthijs De Ligt as the ideal replacement for Gerard Pique. The Spanish International has expressed his desire to take over the president role at the club in 2021, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The World Cup winner will be hanging his boots after the conclusion of the next season as per the reports. Current president Josep Bartomeu’s contract expires in 2021 and Pique is opting to quit his playing career a year before to concentrate on taking over the club. Bartomeu is also ready to vouch for the defender to succeed in his role.

Matthijs De Ligt is attracting interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Juventus. In a recent interview, the Dutch International has expressed his desire to play with Virgil Van Dijk, but he added on that he remains committed to the current club.

When he was asked if a move to Liverpool and union with Van Dijk could be on the cards, he responded “It could happen. He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them. I focus on Ajax and then I’ll see where I end up.”

It is an interesting turn of events and Ajax will be looking to snap as much money by creating an auction between the interested clubs in the summer transfer window. The defender has the contract until 2021 and a fee upwards 60 million will be entertained by the Dutch outfit.

Barcelona have already guaranteed to Frenkie De Jong that Ivan Rakitic will be sold in the summer transfer window. If Matthijs De Ligt makes up his mind to join the reigning Spanish Champions, the endeavor of Philippe Coutinho will be cut short at Nou Camp.
