Mercedes to introduce all-new power unit for 2019 season

Mercedes have confirmed that their team challenger will be unveiled in the forthcoming month.

The new W10, which is built by the German manufacturer will be unveiled on February 13, 2019, after a private shakedown. The Silver Arrows have confirmed that the car will be presented to the world via media and social media platforms on the above-mentioned date.

Racing Point are also going to showcase their team challenge on the same day the Mercedes team are planning to divulge theirs. The team consisting of Lewis Hamilton and Valterri Bottas are aiming to claim their sixth World Championship.

Mercedes has won both drivers and constructors championships for the last five years. Alongside Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher, the British International Lewis Hamilton has joined them to have five titles to his name.

The private testing of the new Mercedes W10 will take place in Spain for a duration of five days from February 18 after the unveiling.

The team has decided to launch the team challenger with plenty of media in attendance before, but the change of approach has been taken this time to do it behind the closed door for the first time in three years.

In order to make it count this year, teams are incredibly guarded about their developments for the upcoming season with new aerodynamic regulations in effect.

Earlier this month, team chief Toto Wolff said that he is confident about Lewis Hamilton and is happy to have him as he continuously seeks for improvement.

Wolff said “I think that what is happening is that he constantly develops, there is no standstill,”

“He is improving in every area. He is improving on track, he is improving off track, and his partnership with Tommy Hilfiger is very successful. It is one of the best performing fashion collections from the Hilfiger brand.

“So he is building up a second pillar of activity that is more than a hobby already, and therefore that has added another building block to making him a complete sportsman.

“With Lewis, we needed our time and in hindsight, how it was with how the 2016 season ended, it gave us the best roots to grow our relationship stronger,” explained Wolff.

“Since then we have had mostly good moments and trust has built up. It is important for a racing driver, for myself and for the team, that we can say that we trust each other and it is not lightly said.”
