Mesut Ozil’s stats in Arsenal vs Man Utd show that Mikel Arteta has already begun transforming the playmaker. Arteta picked up his first win as a manager last night.

Mikel Arteta promised to bring the best out of Mesut Ozil shortly after he was appointed Arsenal manager and it seems his work has already started bearing fruits as the German playmaker put in a phenomenal performance last night during Gunner’s first win since October.

Ozil had been frozen out of the side during Unai Emery’s reign as Arsenal boss. The explanation he had given for Ozil’s ouster was his lack of contribution defensively. The playmaker, who has often been accused of being lazy, however, looked like a man on a mission as he proved everyone wrong with an inspired showing against the Red Devils.

No other player on the field last night, regained possession more times than Mesut Ozil, who managed to do so 10 times.

Not only did he contribute defensively but he also toiled all through the match as he covered a distance of 11.53 Km, the most of any Arsenal player and the most he’s run in more than 2 years!

Arsenal are for from being the threat they were a decade and more ago. It is also unlikely that the side will end in the top 4 or even top 6 this season. However, the change is already visible with the team already performing better than they have already all season long.
