Both teams have a string of both local and international superstars to their disposal which will make this evenly-matched contest much exciting to watch. Mentioning that, The Sports Rush looks at the interesting player battles that will be ones to watch out for at the Wankhede:
Rohit Sharma vs Trent Boult:
The Mumbai Indians skipper had a relatively quiet last season with the bat, but with now him shifting to the opening slot, he will be hoping that he can regain his IPL form. The Mumbai superstar has scored 516 runs against Delhi, and will be anxious to start the 2019 season on a high.
On the other hand, Trent Boult has had success with the ball in the IPL first with SunRisers Hyderabad and now with Delhi. The Kiwi bowler has bowled 18 deliveries to Rohit Sharma, dismissing him thrice and conceding only 24 runs. With that being mentioned, Delhi will be vary of Rohit’s uneasiness against the left-arm pacers, making this a good contest.
Colin Munro vs Jasprit Bumrah:
Colin Munro is currently ranked as the number 2 batsman in the ICC T20I rankings and can be
as explosive as anyone. The Kiwi superstar smashed an unbeaten 58-ball 109 against India in
Rajkot in November 2017, and will be hoping to do the same this season in the IPL.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has since then become one of the best pacers going around in
the world right now. The number 1 ODI bowler has been brilliant with the white ball for Team
India and Mumbai Indians, and will be looking forward to contain Colin Munro. With both
superstars brilliant in their own game, this will be an intense contest to watch.
Kieron Pollard vs Sandeep Lamichanne:
Kieron Pollard’s batting capabilities need no introduction. The West Indian superstar can win
matches on his own and has done so on many occasions for the Windies and for all the sides he
has featured for. Coming on the back of a good PSL season, the Delhi Capitals will have to
prepare well for Pollard.
On the other hand, the young Nepalese spinner, Sandeep Lamichanne, has been a revelation in
league cricket all around the world. The 18-year-old has brilliant variations to go alongside his
accuracy, and with Pollard not really known for being comfortable against spin, Lamichanne will
be a good option for Iyer to look for when Pollard is on the crease.
