Mohamed Salah refuses to go down despite being obviously fouled by Kalidou Koulibaly in the Liverpool vs Napoli Champions league match.

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten run at the Anfield after managing to eek out a draw against Napoli during their Champions League match on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the draw means that despite sitting on top of Group E at the moment, Liverpool can still drop down to the Europa League.

Liverpool conceded the first goal under controversial circumstances when Dries Mertens scored the opener after 21 minutes despite Virgil Van Dijk believing that he was fouled in the build-up. Liverpool protested, but the goal stood.

The Reds then equalised in the 65th minute through Dejan Lovren. That would end up being the last goal of the match. However, the Reds could very well have gone home with 3 points in the bag if not for some poor refereeing and excellent sportsmanship from Mo Salah.

With 20 minutes left in the match, Salah was being manhandled by Koulibaly in the box. Under any other circumstance, this would have been a foul. However, the referee chose to ignore it altogether. Most players in this situation would have taken to the ground to get an obvious penalty. Instead, the Egyptian stayed on his feet in order to try and create a clear-cut opportunity. Unfortunately, he was unable to shake off the Senegalese international and the move came to nothing.

Earlier in the match, Salah tied up Koulibaly as he’s done in their last 3 matches. The centre back, considered one of the best in the world, was made to look like a fool in the first half.

Liverpool will now face Salzburg in their last group stage fixture. A loss at the hands of the Austrian club could very well end their Champions league campaign. Although, they still enter the match as favourites. Should Napoli lose their next match though, Liverpool will qualify for the knockouts regardless of the outcome of their match.
