MS Dhoni asks CSK to release him before IPL 2021 auction

MS Dhoni asks CSK to release him before IPL 2021: The legendary cricketer has asked his IPL franchise to release him after IPL 2020.

Chennai Super Kings, who finished as the runners-up in IPL 2019, released a minimal of five players ahead of the auction for the next season of the Indian Premier League.

Easily among the most successful teams in the tournament, Super Kings are known for backing their squad. It is the same reason why they have decided to retain a large part of their squad despite their players being on the wrong side of age.

If a recent development is to be believed, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has asked the franchise to release him after IPL 2020. It is worth mentioning that there will be a mega auction before IPL 2021 and it is considered to be a reason behind the 38-year old cricketer’s decision.

“There will be a big auction before the 2021 IPL and [MS] Dhoni has already told us that he will play the tournament. So there’s no question of his retirement from the T20 version anytime soon,” a source close to Super Kings was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Dhoni, who regularly remains in the news because of his retirement speculations, is likely to continue playing the T20s has it in it to be a relishing update for his fans. The source further confirmed that Dhoni himself wants to go back to the auction pool to save money for his franchise.

“He wants to go back to the auction pool for the big auction that will take place ahead of the 2021 season. That will give CSK the option of using the Right-to-Match card to pick him, maybe for a lower price. Being the captain he is, Dhoni is ready to sacrifice money for the CSK cause,” the source said.

Dhoni was retained for a whopping INR 15 crore by Chennai in the previous mega auction.
