Rohit Sharma unveils reason behind buying Yuvraj Singh

Rohit Sharma unveils reason behind buying Yuvraj Singh: Mumbai Indians captain opened up on buying the veteran all-rounder.

Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan and captain Rohit Sharma were recently vocal about acquiring the services of all-rounder Yuvraj Singh during the IPL auction.

The veteran cricketer remained unsold in the initial round of the auction and found a buyer in MI during the fag end of the auction. During the presser, Zaheer Khan recalled his own time when he remained unsold in the first round of the IPL.

“Many players go unsold. I’ve been unsold myself in the first round. Auction dynamics make you do that,” Zaheer Khan was quoted as saying. Furthermore, Zaheer also talked about the reason behind showing interest in his former teammate.

“Yuvraj Singh has been a boost to the side. We needed a experienced batsman who controls the game in the middle. Who is better than Yuvraj Singh to do this? Yuvraj is looking forward to this season. He’s doing everything possible to make it count. This is great news for all his fans,” Zaheer said.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma hailed Yuvraj’s experience, terming him as a match-winner. “Yuvraj Singh and Siddhesh Lad are very much in the mix. Yuvraj, as we all know brings a lot of experience to the table. He is a match-winner,” Sharma was quoted as saying.

“We’re excited about Lasith Malinga’s return”

Other than the 37-year southpaw, Indians also showed interest in the 35-year old Lasith Malinga. Despite being the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, Malinga aided Indians’ support staff last season. In what might be one of the most unusual comebacks, Zaheer sounded confident about the ploy and believed Malinga will help Sharma both on and off the field.

“We’re excited about Lasith Malinga’s return. He brings a lot of experience to the side. Not only off the field, but on the field too. Malinga takes pressure off Rohit too during a game,” Zaheer Khan added.
