What can Shaquille O’Neal not do? He has starred in multiple movies over time, either as a lead or a side character. His love of movies and superheroes led him to star in a DC movie called Steel in 1997. He starred as Steel, the title character in the movie. However, the movie bombed at the domestic box office, earning back just $1,7000,000. However, despite starring in a DC movie, O’Neal always had a love for Marvel superheroes, as he revealed 24 years after the release of ‘Steel’.

Shaq was always a big fan of the Hulk, emulating the Marvel character since childhood. Admittedly, he also turned into the Hulk after every bad game. Moreover, in 2018, Shaq said that he wanted to star in a Marvel superhero movie only because he wanted to kick Robert Downy Jr.’s a**. Interestingly, the Hulk actually does fight Downy Jr. in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
Shaquille O’Neal developed his love for superheroes due to his delinquencies as a kid
Speaking of his love for superhero movies, O’Neal said that growing up, he was a delinquent kid. He was always on punishment since he got into trouble a lot. However, that gave him an opportunity to watch a lot of TV. Moreover, while watching television, he was always lost in the stories of superheroes. Here is what O’Neal said on the Jordan Harbinger Show.
“Growing up as a medium juvenile delinquent always on punishment, (I) at least had an opportunity to watch tv and just see superheroes and get entrenched inside the stories they were telling.”
Moreover, he added that Superman was always one of those characters that he loved. Interestingly, Steel, the character that he played in the DC movie, is a character from Superman comics lore. But, perhaps, that also gave him an interest that extended all comic characters across the board.
Shaquille O’Neal became a Platinum recording rapper with his first album
In the 1990s, it was not just movies that Shaq tried his hands at. He became one of the big names in the music industry. He became a Platinum recording rapper with his first album. The Big Aristotle’s first album, Shaq Diesel, went platinum. Not only that, but big names in the industry like Phife Dawg, Def Jef, and Erick Sermon, were all involved in the production. And to add to the glory, his third album, ‘You Can’t Stop The Reign’, also featured two of the greatest rappers, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z.
When O’Neal was growing up, his dad told him to make a list of things that he wanted to do in his life. It seems like Shaq has ticked off most if not all of them already.
