48 Hours After Historic ‘$549,999,999 Barstool Coup’, Kyrie Irving Challenges Dave Portnoy to a 1v1 for ‘Celtics Days Abuse’

What Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy managed to pull off in a matter of months is nothing short of a legal coup in the business world. The veteran business owner recently bought back his company for a staggering $1 after selling it in February for over half a billion dollars. The transaction is set to earn the 46-year-old a profit of about $550,999,999. However, just 48 hours after his historic victory in the business world, Portnoy’s antics on Twitter prompted Kyrie Irving to challenge him to a 1v1 contest.

In June, NBA insider Shams Charania tweeted that Kyrie Irving has reached out to LeBron James to try to convince him to join the Dallas Mavericks. However, such a deal was almost impossible to pull off, considering the logistics. Dallas would have to sell their franchise centerpiece Luka Doncic in order to facilitate such a deal, which is very unlikely to happen.

Meanwhile, Portnoy called out Irving on Twitter, underlining how the shifty guard has tried to influence the tide a certain way in the past as well to force teams to make rash moves during free agency. In fact, Portnoy’s beef with Kyrie started after the latter promised to return to the Boston Celtics, before moving to Brooklyn.

This decision by Kyrie upset a lot of die hard Celtics fans, including Portnoy, and antagonized Irving to them for the first time. The 31-year-old played for Boston from 2017 to 2019 and failed to impress the home audience with any significant results.

In the meantime, Irving responded with a challenge for Portnoy instead of addressing the claims. He reignited the 1v1 challenge he had offered Portnoy in the past by calling him out on his stream.

Talking about a potential challenge with another content creator on Twitter, Irving said on his stream, “I still owe 2 people on Twitter a 1-on-1…Gunz Show & dude from Barstool David Portnoy…I have no personal issues w/them…I’m gonna use these guys as examples. When these guys start talking out the side of their f**king mouth about my craft & my career…

To be fair, challenging two amateurs to a basketball contest won’t endear Kyrie to the general public. There’s no way either of the two guys can stand up to the Mavericks guard on the basketball court. In other words, the best way forward for Kyrie would have been to either dismiss the claims made against him or just ignore the noise. But he did neither.

Kyrie roasted his chat

Kyrie Irving has been quick to check haters this summer after signing his $126 million three-year extension with the Mavs. However, he recently roasted his Twitch chat for no reason while watching Luka Doncic’s FIBA highlights.

“Nobody in this chat can really guard Luka [Doncic] tho,” Irving said, in the middle of his stream. While it may seem pretty self-evident, if people like Dave Portnoy can dare to challenge NBA players for 1v1 matchups, there could very well be people in Kyrie’s chat who might believe that they could take on Doncic in a basketball contest.
