Recently, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were discussing the different possibilities for James Harden. Speaking on his KG Certified podcast, KG hypothesized the various trade scenarios available to the Beard. Making known his desire to leave the Philadelphia 76ers, Harden has been making quite the fuss. From missing practices to publically calling out Sixers GM Daryl Morey.

However, the Big Ticket and the Truth weren’t really interested in the drama. Diving into the different packages, Garnett remarked that this trade feels eerily similar to a trade the Los Angeles Lakers made with the Memphis Grizzlies back in 2008. A trade that saw the Purple and Gold get Pau Gasol for what Garnett describes as a pack of Doritos.
Kevin Garnett likens potential James Harden trade packages to the Lakers’ trade for Pau Gasol
One of the stories of the off-season was James Harden’s wish to play for the Los Angeles Clippers. Tired of the City of Brotherly Love, Harden wants to return to his hometown of LA. However, a trade has been stalled, as the Sixers have been left unconvinced by all of the packages the Clippers have offered.
This was a topic of discussion on the most recent episode of KG Certified. While the fit in LA was a major stumbling block for Paul Pierce, the host of the show, Kevin Garnett, was more enamored by the trade packages. Going down the list of options, KG was a bit bewildered by the lack of return for the Sixers. But, he then remembered a particular trade that took place in 2008.
Likening the Los Angeles Lakers’ trade package for Pau Gasol to a bag of Doritos, the 2008 NBA Champion believes the Clippers are doing the same thing. At the time, the Lakers gave up Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, and Aaron McKie. Additionally, the Grizzlies got the rights to Marc Gasol and two first-round picks.
“It was almost like for Pau Gasol. Remember the Memphis deal where they (Lakers) got Pau Gasol for a bag of Doritos or some chips and some sh*t! That shit was like a diet Sprite, I was like, ‘The league full of sh*t!'”
In terms of talent, the deal seemed very much like a bag of Doritos. They used the first-round picks on two busts, Donte Green and Greivis Vasquez. However, getting Marc Gasol in the process was nothing short of a boon for the franchise. Nevertheless, it’s understandable why Garnett would make such a comparison. And, what’s more, the Clippers haven’t even offered anything close to that for Harden.
KG believes James Harden could end up like Carmelo Anthony
Kevin Garnett is a bit worried about James Harden. KG believes that Harden could find himself out of the league if he doesn’t change his attitude. Taking his past into account, the Beard has already forced his way out of two NBA teams. And now, he’s planning on doing the same with the 76ers.
In Garnett’s opinion, this is similar to what happened with Carmelo Anthony. Unwilling to come off the bench, Anthony made quite the fuss, which led to him getting blackballed by most of the league.
“I think James has to be careful because the NBA doesn’t need him [James Harden]. He forced his way out of Houston, forced his way out of Brooklyn, now he’s trying to force his way out of Philly…”
“Remember when Melo said he wasn’t coming off the bench? They blackballed him for, how many… you don’t remember this, for about two years. He had to go to Portland.”
At the end of the day, things are not looking good for Harden. He has dug himself into quite a hole, and one that he is now struggling to get out of. Hopefully, his actions don’t end up with him out of the league.
