Accused of Lashing Out at Women Because of His Mother, Dennis Rodman Once Vehemently Refuted His Therapist's Claims

Dennis Rodman had a tough childhood. The Worm faced struggles with his mother, who was not affectionate towards him. Years later, a therapist once suggested that Rodman’s issues with women stemmed from his unresolved feelings toward his mother. However, as stated in his book, I Should Be Dead by Now, he himself refuted this claim, asserting a different perspective.

Rodman faced challenges in his marriages and relationships. This, a cause for concern for many people, resulted in a therapist attempting to unearth the origins of his struggles. What was found could explain his issues, but the five-time time NBA Champion was not interested in taking it into consideration.

Dennis Rodman vehemently rejected a therapist’s diagnosis regarding his struggles with women

Dennis Rodman was quite the lady’s man back in the day. Apart from having several girlfriends over the year, The Worm has been married thrice. However, all of his relationships have ended in failure. From his first wife Annie Bakes to Carmen Electra to his last marriage with Michelle Moyer.

All of them have ended poorly for Rodman. So, in an attempt to understand his struggles with women better, he visited a therapist. And, after a few sessions, the therapist came to the conclusion that his struggles stemmed from his animosity toward his mother.

The Hall of Famer had a terrible relationship with his mother. But, while he does admit that he is much like her, unable to express love, as well as being scarred and calloused, Rodman did not agree with the therapist’s diagnosis. In fact, he vehemently denied the “amateur shrink’s” suggestion. Claiming that his anger toward women had nothing to do with his own mother.

“In some ways, I’ve turned out like my mother. I don’t show love on the outside. I don’t show it. I’ve been so scarred and calloused. Another one of those amateur shrinks said, after looking at the way I deal with women, the way I treat women, I may be taking out the anger I feel for my mother on women in general. I don’t think so. First off, I’m not mad at my mother. It’s more like indifference. Second, I’ve had many bad things happen with women that don’t have a damn thing to do with my mother.”

In many ways, Rodman’s denial does make sense. Especially considering his divorces had a lot to do with his money issues rather than problems with women.

Rodman ended his relationships with Annie Bakes and Michelle Moyer due to money

As mentioned earlier, Dennis Rodman has been married thrice. His first wife was Annie Bakes to whom he was married from 1992 to 1993. His last marriage was with Michelle Moyer, the mother of his daughter Trinity. They were married for seven years, having tied the knot in 2003 and ending things in 2012.

And, while he has had his struggles with the opposite gender, his relationships with both women ended for a completely different set of reasons. In particular, his struggles with money.

The Worm is a complex human being, who has faced many problems over the years, both physical and mental. However, over the past few years, he has reached a much better place and is doing quite well for himself nowadays.
