“Nobody dominated like Bill Russell, not even Michael Jordan”: Metta World Peace continues to present conflicting opinions on the GOAT debate

“Bill Russell played against firefighters and lifeguards”: Chris Bosh takes shots at the Celtics legend’s era while discrediting a few of his championships

After initially backing LeBron James as his GOAT last year, Metta World Peace now opines that Bill Russell is the GOAT over Michael Jordan.

World Peace played in the NBA during an 18-year spell. He is one of only two perimeter defenders to have won DPOY this century, with Kawhi being the other one.

He had a long and relatively successful NBA career, but championship success eluded him for a while. Artest finally tracked down the much-coveted NBA championship in the 2009-10 season with the Lakers.

But Metta seems to be quite a casual if you judged him from a few of his takes on Twitter. He tweeted that the Pacers are just 2 years from making the Finals just last week.

Naturally, Artest faced all 3 among Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and LeBron James through his NBA career. So his opinion is something we cannot always dismiss as a casual take. But it seems that Metta himself wakes up with different notions every once in a while.

Metta World Peace declares that Bill Russell is the GOAT over Michael Jordan

World Peace was recently on the Fierce Talk podcast, where he was asked his opinion on the GOAT debate. As we’ve mentioned before, the 2004 NBA Defensive Player of the Year has backed LeBron in the past.

But this time around, Metta went a different route:

“I think Bill Russell is (the GOAT), honestly. Bill Russell got 11 championships. I look at Michael as one of the greatest. But I think Bill Russell is the greatest. When you can win in your era. That’s what it’s about. Winning in your era. And nobody dominated like that. Not even Michael Jordan.”

Bill Russell as your GOAT isn’t as much of a hot take as people might make it out to be. The Celtics’ resident GOAT is by far the most successful player in NBA history. But his offense left a few things to be desired, unlike the likes of MJ and LeBron.
