“An NBA Star”: 11-year-old Jayson Tatum Saying He Would Become a Professional Basketball Player Didn’t Sit Well With a Teacher
The Boston Celtics may not have to become one of the top-three defenses in order to return to the NBA Finals, however. One of the best players of the current generation, Jayson Tatum, could have lost his path in his childhood if he had listened to a particular teacher when he was in the 5th Grade and told her he wanted to become an NBA player.
The teacher harshly told that 11-year-old to be a “realistic profession” and to “change his dreams”. Yes, you heard it right. A “teacher” said that to a kid.
That was enough for his mom, Brandy Cole, who was a single parent, to pop off.
“I was livid, I went into the school the next day and talked to the teacher, and it wasn’t, like, a two-way conversation,” Cole said. “I said, ‘Ma’am, with all due respect, if you ask him a question, and he answers, I don’t think it’s appropriate to tell him that’s something he can’t achieve when I’m at home telling him anything he can dream is possible.'”
13-years later that dream has turned into reality and has made him a 3-time All-Star, 2-time All-NBA member, and an Eastern Conference Finals MVP. Kudos to his mother for fighting for him when he needed it the most.
How has Tatum made Celtics the best team in the East since last season?
Simple. Having a partner in crime like Jaylen brown made it easier, while the Celtics are also an overall solid team on paper as well.
Last season, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown became the first pair of teammates to each score more than 1500 points in the same season and 500 points in the same Playoffs.
Alas, they had to play a rejuvenated GSW team, otherwise, 2021-22 would have been their championship season.
