“Anthony Davis has nothing to prove”: Lakers star releases confident statement ahead of LeBron James and co’s series vs Chris Paul’s Phoenix Suns
Anthony Davis puts out a candid statement on the Lakers’ chances of winning a second straight title during the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
The Lakers’ regular season was hardly a smooth one. The franchise was plagued with injuries during the campaign, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis the most notable of those sidelined.
Since his return, the King has still struggled a bit with the ankle he injured. And so, the Brow has been leading this team when needed and has done a stupendous job so far.
The team is set to play game 1 in its series against the Phoenix Suns tonight, who were absolutely phenomenal during the regular season. And so, needless to say, the pressure is on the Lakers. Or at least that’s how the rest of the world perceives it.
In a recent interview ahead of the playoffs, Anthony Davis was asked to comment on the expectations on the shoulders of his team. And, the superstar replied with an answer that has shocked many in the NBA community.

“I have nothing to prove”: Anthony Davis claims he doesn’t have to live up to any expectations
A lot has been made of the matchup between the Lakers and the Suns since the former clinched the 7th seed. But, while many are expecting the reigning champions to rise to a new level and show fans something new, AD, it seems feels differently. Here is what he said on the matter.
“I have nothing to prove to anyone… I don’t think I have anything to prove to myself; only being another champion. That’s really it. I want to be able to win multiple championships; this is another opportunity for me to do so.
For our group, maybe you can add the challenge of being a seventh seed. But as far as trying to prove something to anyone else… I go out every day, compete, and let the chips fall where they may.”
The fact that Davis can say this publicly, speaks to how calm the Lakers’ camp must be. However, only time will tell if this mentality is good enough to take them over the top this time around.
