In 2011, Shaquille O’Neal retired from basketball and moved on to TV. Joining the cast of Inside the NBA on TNT, Shaq has been a mainstay on a panel consisting of himself, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley. He’s been a hilarious addition to Turner Sports, with some of the things he says, being downright crazy. One of those things involved him trying to sell the crew on his $80 gas logic, which mathematically made no sense.

Shaq has developed quite a reputation for himself with his outlandish theories. And, while his $80 gas theory is interesting, it does not compare to his theory surrounding how close the Moon is. After all, it takes a special kind of thinking to believe the Moon is closer to you than California just because you can see it.
Shaquille O’Neal once shared an insane $80 gas theory that left Inside the NBA stunned
On an episode of Inside the NBA a year or so ago, Kenny Smith was talking about his car. He spoke about how difficult it is to fill $80 worth of gas, and how he didn’t want to buy a car with such mileage. It is here that Shaquille O’Neal provided a suggestion that left the entire crew bewildered.
Refusing to accept that he was in the wrong, Shaq made a huge mathematical miscalculation. The Big Aristotle suggested that an $80 tank of gas can be substituted by using $40 of it, and then bringing it to a gas station later and filling it with $20 worth of gas. Adamant that he is right, Shaq proudly stated that you can easily save $20 by doing so.
Unfortunately for him, as was later pointed out, $40 added to $20 only equals $60. Meaning that you still aren’t running on a full tank, considering it costs $80. It made no sense whatsoever, and the entire crew couldn’t help but laugh. And, after finally understanding his error, even O’Neal had no choice but to join in with the laughter.

It certainly was an interesting solution from Shaq. And, while it didn’t really make any sense, perhaps maths just isn’t his strong suit. But then again, it probably doesn’t bother him that much. Especially considering how far he’s gotten without it.
Shaq has built a $400,000,000 empire for himself
It’s true, Shaquille O’Neal’s mathematical prowess is questionable. However, he didn’t really need to use it that much to find success. His efforts on the basketball court aside, Shaq has been very proficient with his finances. From his numerous investments to his multiple endorsements. All of it has allowed Big Diesel to build his $400,000,000 net worth.

With all that money to his name, it’s unlikely Shaq will be worrying about his mathematical ability. He probably has a couple of accountants doing that for him.
