The reason why Kyrie Irving chose #11
Before his 6 seasons with the Cavaliers wearing the #2, Kai was repping #1 during his college days.
It wasn’t until the tip-off of the 2017-18 season that Kyrie would switch to #11 during his stint with the Celtics. 6 campaigns since the switch, a Hornets reporter recently disclosed why the 6-foot-2 point guard picked the number.
According to the Ashley ShahAhmadi:
– Kyrie was born at 1:11
– His father, Drederick, wore #11
– There are 11 letters in his full name
– K is the 11th letter of the alphabet
– Played 11 games for the Duke Blue Devils
– Was Pick 1, Round 1 of the 2011 Draft
– Scored 11,000th career points on 11th March
“He was born at 1:11, his dad wore no. 11 when he played college ball at Boston University, Kyrie Irving is exactly 11 letters long. Even the letter K is the 11th letter of the alphabet and after playing a total of 11 games at Duke due to injury, he was drafted pick 1 of round 1 in 2011. Even scored his 11,000th point on the 11th of March!”

“He is the reason why I wear number 11”: Kyrie
Irving shares a pretty special bond with his father. In fact, Drederick Irving is even the reason behind the Nets star picking the number 11.
In a 4-year-old Nike commercial, Irving disclosed the same:
“My mom passed away when I was young, so my dad had to raise my sister and I alone. He was a great player, even tried out for Boston once, but he sacrificed his dream so I could live mine. He’s the reason why I wear number 11.”
