"Charles Barkley, you're almost a champion": When Kevin Garnett used Shaq's 'Rings, Ernie' against the NBA legend after getting roasted

Charles Barkley and Kevin Garnett are both 2 of the greatest power forwards in NBA history. They’re also pretty great at banter, or so we’ve heard.

Chuck has made it his life’s mission to squeeze every bit of comedy out of his TV career. Or so it would seem, judging from the reckless abandon with which he roasts those around him.

Most guests on Inside the NBA during post-game interviews and pre-game proceedings are susceptible to Barkley slander. There’s practically nothing that Chuck will leave on the table when he sees an opportunity for a roast.

Barkley has also been on the wrong end of a few insults over the years, though. Those ‘big ole San Antonio’ women will in fact be a bit thankful to one particular recent inductee to the Hall of Fame.

Kevin Garnett comes up clutch, roasting Charles Barkley after getting bodied on Inside the NBA

Area 29 was a new show back in 2017. Kevin Garnett was fresh out of retirement, and he’d only just landed a gig with TNT. Most people would believe that the Big Ticket is not television material. He certainly didn’t look like it in his early days.

But if there’s one thing that you can trust Garnett not to mess up, it’s the element of talking trash. Garnett does not give a singular damn. The Celtics and Wolves legend will go off on just about anyone with the right motivation.

In one of his earliest Area 29 features, Garnett got Gary Payton onto his segment. Chuck began roasting Garnett for his fashion sense, and he then began talking a bit more light-heartedly.

Now, you can’t expect the Big Ticket to shut his trap in front of possibly the NBA’s GOAT trash talker. He ethered Chuck when the time came and the roasting became stuff about the Hall of Fame.

Barkley: Gary, you’re in the Hall of Fame, Shaq, you’re in the Hall of Fame, I’m in the Hall of Fame, Kevin you’re a borderline Hall of Famer.

Garnett: Champion. Champion. It’s all good. Champion. Shaq, you’re a champion. Gary, you’re a champion. Ken, you’re a champion. You know, Chuck, you’re almost a champion. Borderline champion.
