"Dad Would Have Liked if Bronny James had Gone to Ohio State": Skip Bayless Reflects on LeBron James' Son Picking USC

Bronny James, after months of staying undecided, finally declared his stop this year. The 18-year-old Sierra Canyon player chose USC as his college destination. With the entire community buzzing with this news, Skip Bayless finally talked about it on the latest episode of Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. The FS1 analyst pointed out that though Bronny has picked USC, his father, LeBron James, would have preferred if he had gone to Ohio State.

Bronny’s declaration came after months of uncertainty. The oldest of LeBron’s kids, the 18-year-old picked USC after long contemplation. His decision seems to be well informed especially because Savannah James prevented any manipulation from scouts and coaches by directing all conversations with Bronny through her.

Even as the James family is ecstatic about it, Skip Bayless suggested that somewhere, the 38-year-old Lakers star still wished to watch his son play for Ohio State.

Skip Bayless believes LeBron wanted Bronny James to play for Ohio State

After the weekend hiatus, Skip and Shannon aired today. While Bronny’s decision had already come out, Bayless and Shannon finally got the opportunity talk about it today.

Skip, while praising the youngster, felt Bronny will be a great addition to USC. He thinks that the Sierra Canyon guard’s defensive abilities ensure a bright future. However, at the same time, Skip also suggested that Bron would have preferred if his son went to Ohio State instead.

While Skip reasoned that LeBron believed Ohio is where his roots are, Shannon Sharpe claimed Ohio was too far from home which would have resulted in LeBron and Savannah attending fewer games than they would have liked.

Skip further praised Bronny for not falling prey to his father’s preferences. Instead, the 6ft 3″ guard decided for himself even if it meant rejecting his father’s wishes. Skip and Shannon: Undisputed posted the video of this interaction on their Twitter account.

Bayless, on the episode, said: “I am sure his dad would have liked it if he (Bronny James) had gone to Ohio State ’cause that’s where his roots are.” Skip further stated, “He didn’t try to please his dad completely…”

On his Twitter, Skip Bayless reiterated that Bronny would love going to USC because it’s so close to his family. The school is, after all, 10 minutes from LeBron’s arena. Bayless also claimed that with the addition of the newest member, USC has the potential to win a national championship.

“Bronny James made the right decision. USC’s arena is 10 minutes from his dad’s arena, what’s not to love? USC now has National Championship potential.”

LeBron James was ecstatic for his son

After the news of Bronny’s decision came out, LeBron was ecstatic. He happily talked about his son and the prospect of him going to USC. The Lakers superstar also revealed that Bronny will be the first of James gang to go to college, at least to his knowledge. USA Today reported LeBron’s interview about Bronny going to USC.

LeBron: “First of all congratulations to my son on his next journey and picking a great university. I’m proud of him. This is an incredible thing. Unless it was one of my great-grandmothers or great-grandfathers or someone way before my time, to my knowledge this is the first one out of the James Gang to go to college.”

James also pointed out how neither he nor Savannah had ever gone to college. Though the lack of college education has had absolutely no effect on Bron or Savannah, it is still heartwarming to see how excited they are for their son.
