During this Free Agency, Dennis Schroder gave up on an $84 million contract from the Los Angeles Lakers, only to sign a $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics. The German star finally breaks his silence over the incident via an Instagram post.

In this Free Agency, Dennis Schroder turned down the Lakers’ $84 million contract and ended up signing with the Celtics on a 1-year, $5.9 million deal. Shannon Sharpe explains how the German star overestimated the market as well as his ability.

Dennis Schroder is a mediocre guard with a lot of experience under his belt. Even though Schroder isn’t an All-Star type of PG, over the course of his 8-year NBA career, the German has time and again proven himself to be an efficient starting guard.

After an incredible season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the former Sixth Man of the Year candidate was acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers. LAL was just coming off a championship season and added Dennis to the squad alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in aspirations to win back-to-back NBA titles.

Even though Schroder was given starting point guard privileges, the 27-year-old had a pretty underwhelming campaign. After putting up 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds, it is safe to say that he was unable to reach the high expectations the Lakers front office had set for him. And even in the playoffs, Dennis had quite a silent 14.3 points, 3 rebounds and 2.8 assists series against the Suns, failing to make an impact as his team suffered a disappointing first-round loss.

“I feel bad for Dennis Schroder. He’s not going to be able to make this up”: Shannon Sharpe

Clearly, Dennis Schroder had a pretty mediocre individual season this past year. And sadly for him, things haven’t gotten any better this offseason. In fact, the combo guard lost almost $78 million this free agency.

Yes, you read that correctly. LAL had generously offered a 4-year, $84 million (plus an additional $8 million in bonuses) contract extension. And surprisingly, Schroder turned down that deal. And now, has ended up signing with the Boston Celtics on a 1-year, $5.9 million deal.

Shannon Sharpe is one of the many analysts who has been left in shock with Dennis’ bizarre free agency decisions. On his “UNDISPUTED” show, Sharpe spoke about the whole Dennis Schroder incident in grave detail.

“He overplayed the market and he overplayed his ability. One of two people need to go, either he needs to fire his agent or he needs to fire himself, but somebody has got to go.”

“What he was doing, was pocket-watching everybody else to see what they got. Four years, $84 million, guaranteed.”

“Remember, he had came off the bench the past two years. Played great. “I’m a starter. I’m done with coming off the bench thing.” Now look at him.”

“He (Schroder) gagged this one. You’ve heard the term ‘fumbling the bag’. He fumbled the suitcase. They lost the whole airplane full of baggage. As a matter of fact, they lost the airplane. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. But I’m firing my agent.”

No doubt, Dennis Schroder will have to have the best season of his career, so he could hope to secure a bigger contract for the upcoming seasons.
