"Watch what happens next”: Dennis Schroder gets support from wife ahead of Celtics debut after the German point guard faces internet trolls

Dennis Schroder was subjected to a lot of trolling and mocking for rejecting the Lakers’ $84 million contract and ending up signing with the Celtics on a 1-year, $5.9 million deal. Ellen Schroder put up a heartfelt message on her Instagram defending her husband.

Dennis Schroder is a mediocre guard with a lot of experience under his belt. Even though Schroder isn’t an All-Star type of PG, over the course of his 8-year NBA career, the German has time and again proven himself to be an efficient starting guard.

After an incredible season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the former Sixth Man of the Year candidate was acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers. LAL was just coming off a championship season and added Dennis to the squad alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in aspirations to win back-to-back NBA titles.

Given the privilege to be the starting point guard of the Lakers, the 27-year-old couldn’t live up to LAL’s expectations. The 6-foot-3 player put up a modest 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds on 43.7/33.5/84.8 shooting splits while averaging a career-high 32.1 minutes in the 61 games he played in the 2020-2021 season.

Schroder was one of the players who failed to step up and fill in when the All-Star duo of LBJ and AD were sidelined with injuries. And wasn’t as impactful during the postseason, putting up only 14.3 points, 2.8 assists and 3 rebounds while playing 32.7 minutes per game on inefficient 40/30/84 shooting splits.

“Not everyone understands this, but watch what will happen next”: Ellen Schroder comes to Dennis Schroder’s defense

As he became a free agent after the 2020-2021 campaign, the Los Angeles Lakers offered Schroder a solid 4-year, $84 million contract extension. And shockingly, Dennis had rejected that contract in hopes to attract more money from other interested teams. Much to his surprise, no other team was ready to give him $21 million, let alone more, a year. At last, he had to settle for a 1-year, $5.9 million contract with the Boston Celtics.

Because of his irrational decision, losing out on a lot of money, Dennis Schroder has been subjected to social media trolls and even getting a lot of unnecessary hate. Amidst all of this, his wife decided to support her husband during a low phase in his career. Ellen Schroder took it to her Instagram story wrote a heartfelt message for her husband.

“I’m so proud of my husband that he made this decision to stay true to himself and to fight for his goals and his vision! I know not everyone understands this. They would choose money before anything else. But let me tell you: Show some love, be patient, and watch what will happen next.”

What’s done is done now. Dennis Schroder should only focus on his upcoming year at Boston and helping Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown push for a deep playoff run. And hope he is able to prove all his doubters wrong.
