Despite Rows Around Anti-semitism, Kyrie Irving is Set to Resign With Brooklyn

Back in 2019, the Brooklyn Nets made headlines by singing the All-Star duo of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. However, it is fair to say that this superteam has underachieved.

Since their union back at the beginning of the 2019 season, KD and Kai shared the court merely 74 times. Further, regarded as the favourites to come out of the East every single season in the Durant-Irving era, the Nets have been disappointing, to say the least.

Yes, the NY-based franchise did make it to the postseason in each of the past 4 campaigns. However, the Nets merely made it past the first round when they lost to the Bucks in the second round of the 2021 playoffs.

NBA Twitter reacts to Kyrie Irving potentially re-signing with the Nets

Irving hasn’t played a lot of basketball during his 4-year stint with the Brooklyn Nets. Whether it was due to COVID or his wish to get vaccinated or his most-recent anti-semitic comments, Irving has suited up for only 127 games.

As a Net, the 6-foot-2 point guard has averaged a staggering 24.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.

With Irving’s initial 4-year $136.5 million contract reaching its end, several sources believe that the NBA champ is going to be re-signing in the coming offseason.

As soon as this news went up on social media, NBA Twitter exploded with reactions. While there were a few Brooklyn fans who were delighted to hear the news, there was a huge group of people who weren’t exactly happy with the news.

Kai’s performance in the 2022-2023 season

Despite their lacklustre performance in the previous playoffs, the Nets have had a great regular season so far. They are 27-16 and placed 4th in the East, merely 1 game behind the #2 Milwaukee Bucks.

While The Durantula has been phenomenal, Kyrie’s contributions are also notable, to say the least.

In 32 games, the 3-time All-NBA member has managed to average 25.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game on a 48/36/90 shooting split.

The former Duke Blue Devil was the highest vote-getter among all Eastern Conference guards. Without any doubt, we will be seeing Uncle Drew perform at the 2023 All-Star Game.
