Despite Shaquille O’Neal Lying on Miami Beach PD Application, 7ft 1″ Lakers Legend Becomes Special Deputy With Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office
Shaquille O’Neal is a funny and goofy character who never stops himself from having fun. There is no such place that Shaq would be afraid of doing a bit of tom-foolery, There was one time when the Lakers legend filled the application for Miami Beach Police Department with lies about himself. However, despite those blatant lies, he was still selected. Nine years after that incident, the 7’1″ Lakers legend was recently honored with the position of Special Deputy with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
If not a basketball player, we would have seen Shaquille O’Neal become a part of law enforcement. He was raised under the strict military upbringing of his step-father, Sgt. Phillip Harrison, which might have influenced his beliefs. One of Shaq’s most famous roles in the Hollywood comedy ‘Grown Ups 2’ was also that of a cop.
Shaquille O’Neal honored by the police despite having lied in his application nine years back
Shaquille O’Neal wanted to portray himself as an ideal candidate for the Miami Beach Police Department. Hence, in order to pull that image off, Shaq had to lie about all of his vices, which might not portray him as a simple human being applying to become a cop. Despite earning over $27,000,000 in salary playing for the Miami Heat, Shaq claimed that he didn’t have any savings, investments, or an automobile.
Furthermore, Shaq blatantly claimed that neither he nor his spouse had ever been sued or had sued anyone. Putting things into better context, Shaq was then named as a defendant in two suits in his residence in Orange County, Florida. Surprisingly, the Miami Beach Police Department accepted Shaq’s application. However, Vice President of the Miami Beach Police Union Gustavo Sanchez said that such activities could warrant instant disqualifications.
Nine years later, Shaq has been inducted as a Special Deputy by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. In an elated Instagram announcement of this use, the user wrote in the caption,
“It’s official ‘Shaq’ is a member of the FBSCO family… Special Deputy Shaquille O’Neal was willing to promote public safety and help our basketball team… who wants to play us… Im so happy for all my relationships, the people I’ve meet have always come back to help me and the causes, I support…”

Dreams do come true and this phrase is relevant for Shaq as well. He indeed fulfilled his dream to officially become a cop, even if this came much later in his life.
Shaq announced intentions to run for Sheriff in 2020
Shaquille O’Neal announced that he intended to run for the Sheriff’s office in 2020. Though he did not elaborate on his plan, he explained his decision stating it wasn’t about politics. He had always wanted to serve the community with his service and there was no better work than that of a cop.
Shaq was then also an honorary deputy in Georgia’s Clayton County. He has famously acted as a reserve police officer in numerous instances, including during the time he played in Los Angeles and Miami Beach. Knowing himself to be a team player, Shaq had all the plans to run an effective police system, if he were to get the office.
