“Dillon Brooks Hurt Me”: Kyrie Irving Reveals What Really Happened During Viral Meme Moment With Notorious Grizzlies Guard
Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving had his say on the viral moment that he shared with Memphis Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks. The Mavericks were in a strong position for the Playoffs but ended up losing the game in the absence of Luka Doncic. An angry Kyrie Irving seemed to snub Dillon Brooks when he was approached for a jersey swap after the game. Speaking on his Twitch stream, Irving finally explained his mindset behind the snub, according to a video posted by Kyrie Center.
Brooks had already taken his jersey off and was expecting a swap. However, Irving ended up walking away after shaking his hand. The incident led to ridicule for Brooks on Twitter. The incident took place at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, in front of Brooks’ home crowd. The match saw the Mavericks lead through much of the game only to register a 112-108 loss.
Kyrie Irving explains what he was thinking during viral moment with Dillon Brooks
Irving explained during the live stream that it was Brooks who had hurt him multiple times during the game. He had already scored 26 points in three quarters but ended up sitting out for the majority of the 4th.
This led to a 112-108 loss for the Mavericks, who were already missing Luka Doncic. Their third straight loss at the time, it steamrolled into the Mavericks missing out on Playoffs altogether. Irving explained that even Brooks knew he was pissed:
“Me and him had a whole viral moment this year when after the game, I was pissed, that I got hurt again, during the game. I was pissed. Not necessarily just pissed, I was pissed at him. He knew it too. He didn’t do it on purpose or I don’t know if he did it on purpose, but he [Dillon Brooks] hurt me again in the game. I had like 26 going into the fourth quarter at Memphis. We were supposed to win that game, if we win that game we get to the playoffs. I didn’t take his jersey after the game because I was just so focussed on getting to the locker and focus on my recover. I didn’t play that s**t on him.”

The incident led to some heavy trolling on social media for Dillon Brooks. The player was ridiculed for his failed attempt at the jersey swap, although Irving later claimed that he would exchange jerseys the next time, according to Sports Illustrated.
Dillon Brooks got into a hilarious feud with LeBron James just weeks later
It will be fair to say the second half of the season did not go as planned for Brooks. After being ridiculed for the failed jersey swap, he ended up going against one of the best players in the history of the game.
Brooks claimed that LeBron was not the same player on the occasion of the Playoff series against the Lakers. Calling the 4-time NBA champion old, Brooks found himself on the receiving end for much of the series.

James stayed diplomatic throughout but posted a hilarious Instagram post talking about fighting “grizzly bears.” He once again proved that he would rather do his talking on the court, and embarrassed the 27-year old Dillon Brooks for his outburst.
