“Disbelief? No. They Played Better Than We Did”: Jayson Tatum Left Startled As the Nets Force 44-Point Turnaround to Beat Celtics

The Boston Celtics began their 3-game homestand with a 117-113 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Recently falling down to the 2nd spot in the Eastern Conference, a win against the Brooklyn Nets was a must in order to regain that #1 seed. Jayson Tatum and co. looked to be in the driving seat of the contest right from tip-off. Thanks to Jaylen Brown’s 21 first-half points, the Celtics got a huge 28-point lead.

However, in the final two periods of the contest, the likes of Cameron Johnson, Mikal Bridges, and Spencer Dinwiddie combined for 47 points. With the trio’s scoring outburst, the Nets managed to outscore Joe Mazzulla’s boys by 19 points.

Coming back from the 28-point deficit, the NY-based franchise had a 44-point turnaround, finally upsetting Boston 115-105.

Jayson Tatum expressed frustration after blowing a 28-point lead

The 28-point come-from-the-back win was one that will be etched in the franchise’s history book. The largest comeback in the NBA this season and tying for the largest comeback in franchise history, tonight’s win for the Brooklyn Nets was incredible, to say the least.

Despite recording a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double performance, JT wasn’t as efficient as we’ve seen him all season long. Suffering a massive loss on his 25th birthday, the former Duke Blue Devil revealed his true emotions during the postgame interview:

“Disbelief? No. We didn’t play well. They played better than we did, usually you lose. So it’s not disbelief. I don’t even know if it’s anger. Played too many games to be angry. Move on, get ready for the next one. It is what it is.”

JT enters top 3 in latest MVP Ladder

The Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the association. While the likes of Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and others have been performing exceptionally well, Tatum has been the biggest reason behind their success.

The 6-foot-8 forward has been averaging a staggering 30.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.

Owing to his sensational performances over the past few weeks, the 2-time All-NBA player jumped 1 spot up on the latest MVP Ladder. With the race for the 2023 MVP honors being extremely tight, Jayson is definitely one of the frontrunners to win the first-ever Michael Jordan Trophy.
