Dwyane Wade is one of the most prominent figures in the basketball world. As a former superstar, businessman, and father. Wade is always in the spotlight.

Most recently, Flash has been making headlines. The three-time NBA Champion has filed a petition on behalf of his daughter in order to legally change her name.

However, this decision has come under much scrutiny. Particularly from his ex-wife, Siovaughn Funches, who claims Wade is violating their custody agreement.

Dwyane Wade accused of violating custody agreement by ex-wife Siovaughn Funches

In 2011, Dwyane Wade divorced his ex-wife Siovaughn Funches. As part of the agreement, it was decided that Wade would get custody of the couple’s trans daughter Zaya Wade.

Zaya, who is legally named Zion Malachi Airamis Wade is looking to change her name. As a result, her father D-Wade has filed a petition on her behalf. However, Zaya’s mother Siovaughn has put a hold on proceedings, claiming the Miami Heat legend has violated the terms of their custody agreement.

According to Funches, Wade is using Zaya’s name change as a means of commercial and financial gain.

Understandably infuriated, Wade has slammed his ex-wife for both the accusations and the attempt to prevent the name change. Safe to say, this could be a long and arduous legal battle.

D-Wade fires back at ex-wife claiming she is not thinking of Zaya Wade’s best interest

Dwyane Wade is certainly not happy to see his petition being objected to. He has even slammed his ex-wife for the same, suggesting that Funches is not considering that the name change is in the best interest of their daughter Zaya. This was revealed in a separate court filing.

“It is about what Zaya wants and what is in her best interest. This petition is about empowering Zaya to live her truth. This petition is about allowing Zaya to take on the milestones of being a young adult with confidence and joy, and to ensure that those moments are not clouded by the self-doubt that comes from checking a box or signing a name that does not reflect her identity.”

The coming weeks are certainly going to be difficult for both parents. Hopefully, at the end of the day, things get sorted out without any issues.
