"Dwyane Wade to host American version of British game show": TBS offers Heat legend a contract to follow in the footsteps of NFL's Alex Trebek and Aaron Rodgers

Sportspersons don’t usually get to go on TV for reasons other than their former sport. But Dwyane Wade is breaking stereotypes in this regard.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a truly popular game show take off in the USA. ‘Are you faster than a 5th Grader???’ and ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ are just a couple of these ideas.

There are also diverse quizzing games in this category that have been popularized as game shows in USA. ‘Jeopardy’ and ‘The Weakest Link’ are two ideas borrowed from British television show ideas.

These aren’t the only two ideas common to British and American reality shows either. There’s the X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and British Idol, which have all got British origins to them.

Game shows, however, are less commonly ripped off/imitated by American showrunners. It seems there is less of a translatability of those game formats to the American public from the British. However, Dwyane Wade is poised to bring a change to that status quo.

Dwyane Wade to be host, executive producer of an American version of The Cube

Dwyane Wade was announced as the host of an upcoming game show on TBS called The Cube. A description of this show, as provided in Deadline, is as follows:

“In The Cube, pairs of contestants are forced to compete in a series of challenges while inside a small Perspex cube. It highlights how even straightforward tasks like catching, throwing, estimating, memorizing and balancing were more difficult when confined and under pressure in a small area surrounded by a large, live studio audience.”

“Working against the clock, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games, each worth an increasing amount of money, as they move closer to the jackpot.”

The show premieres on June 10th, which is not far from now. This is clearly a competition both of talent and composure in a high-pressure circumstances. And you’d expect an NBA Finals MVP to be the perfect brand ambassador for such a show. Take a look below.
