“Eat a d—k LeBron James”: Lakers star gets hit with a racially insensitive comment from a New Orleans based coffee shop following controversial tweet
LeBron James gets told to “eat a d—k” by the owner of a New Orleans based coffee shop after tweeting out in support of BLM.
Over the years of LeBron James dominating the NBA, he’s transcended the mere game of basketball and entered an echelon of North American sports icons that hold a considerable amount of weightage when it comes to influencing the citizens of USA. After all, a poll last year claimed that African Americans were 40% more likely to get vaccinated against COVID-19 if LeBron James were to come out in favor for it.
The 2020 Finals MVP has an incredible amount of pull when it comes to the black community. He’s beloved by many in this community as he’s quick to speak out against racial injustices that plague the US. However, with a fan following as large as 100 million+ over Twitter and Instagram, he’s bound to receive hate.
LeBron James nay-sayers come in the form of a bevy of right-wing activists such as Candice Owens and Ben Shapiro. Their harsh criticism of James is backed by people like one, Stephen Bruno Jr, the owner of a PJ’s Coffee Shop franchisee.
A coffee shop in New Orleans tweets out a racy message directed towards LeBron James.
A chain of New Orleans based coffee shops known as PJ’s Coffee Shop let Stephen Bruno Jr open up his own in the city using the franchise’s name. However, upon LeBron James tweeting out a message demanding the protection of young black men and women, Bruno Jr responded to it by saying, “Eat a [eggplant emoji].
Protect our Young Black Women & Men! 🙏🏾✊🏾🤎👑
— LeBron James (@KingJames) May 3, 2021
The eggplant emoji is self-explanatory for what it means. Upon hearing of this, PJ’s Coffee Shop immediately took Bruno Jr’s franchisee outlet away from him and released a statement that said the company was disappointed with what had taken place.
Furthermore, PJ’s Coffee Shop representatives elaborated by saying, “The existing franchisees of that location are well respected and have proven to be collaborative franchise partners for years.”
