"Evan Mobley Reminds Me of You, Kevin Garnett!": Brian Scalabrine Reveals Why He Fears the Cavaliers' Star as a Celtics' Fan

The Cleveland Cavaliers have astonished the NBA with the incredible work they put in over the past few years. Following LeBron James’ second departure from the NBA champions, the front office was in rebuild once again.

And although they drafted some highly touted, yet underrated prospects, not one single would be believed the team was capable of contending for an NBA championship until 2024 at the very least.

With the efforts of the Cavaliers hierarchy though, that estimate might be much closer than anticipated. With a core of Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Jarett Allen, and Evan Mobley, the Cleveland Cavaliers have put the NBA on notice.

Mitchell and Allen made a name for themselves through their displays with the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets respectively. The NBA was meticulously aware of just how impeccable the pair were.

It’s the meteoric rise of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley that has left the league stupefied. The pair’s rise to prominence, combined with Collin Sexton’s injury timing meant that the latter was driven out of Cleveland to Utah in a trade package for Mitchell.

Mobley, in particular, has garnered the attention of the rest of the league, due to his colossal performances around the paint, from an offensive as well as defensive standpoint. Former NBA champion, Brian Scalabrine is of the belief that he’s the next superstar.

Brian Scalabrine fears Evan Mobley

Scalabrine was a member of the 2008 Boston Celtics roster that captured the NBA title. Although his playing career didn’t amount to much, Scalabrine spent ten years in the league, witnessing some of the greatest names.

While speaking to former teammate Kevin Garnett on ‘KGCertified’, Scalabrine shared his insight on the Cavaliers roster, and lauded the standing of Mobley, within the roster.

Scalabrine said:

“You have to like Mobley right? You have to like him cos he ain’t loud like you..but he there. And he knows how to play, and he’s inside and he’s outside. When I watch him, there’ll never be another you, but I think…his game reminds me of you. He could do everything, he takes pride in doing everything, so that dude scares me. Another thing that he does that you did, is he can defend without fouling. Like you could be physical without fouling. Thats hard to do. Lot of people cant.”

Scalabrine went on to hail the Cavaliers roster. The former NBA champion’s insights and comparisons are accurate. There will never be another Kevin Garnett, but Evan Mobley has the potential to be the closest resemblance of Garnett we might get for a long possible time.

Are the Cleveland Cavaliers championship bound?

With the roster they possess currently, taking into account the influx of talent that they have added to their team in the offseason, the sky is the limit for this group of players. As long as they maintain their cohesion and synergy, the team can achieve anything.

The duo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell have been burdened with the responsibility of leading the offense, while Mobley and Jarrett Allen assume primary responsibilities on the defensive end. With these four at the helm, the franchise has a bright future.
