"Everyone who's talking can do whatever they have to do": Lakers Superstar Anthony Davis is Unfettered by his Resurgence

Anthony Davis is playing as a man possessed, but according to him, that’s what he’s supposed to do. The Lakers superstar is a different animal this season; he’s playing like the New Orleans MVP we’ve known. The 2020 DPOY runner-up is back, and how!

In the last 10 games, there has been no better player than AD on the floor. He’s had multiple 30-point games and is the only person after Shaquille O’Neal to have back-to-back 40-point, 10-rebound games.

This is what I’m supposed to be doing,” according to Davis. The big man from Chicago was always expected to do big things in a purple and gold uniform, but the last two seasons were nothing but that. Missing almost an entire season combined, Davis was almost written off as a liability.

Charles Barkley called him “Street Clothes” for his unavailability. It was not that Davis lost his touch; he just couldn’t stay fit. Fans were always scared when he would fall and were afraid to look at the damage.

Another fan-favorite nickname for the guy is “always damaged.” And rightfully so, because he hurt himself dunking the ball. A job he was meant to do. And then something clicked this season.

Anthony Davis is the next step in the Lakers’ grand scheme of things – keeping him fit should be their priority

In a post-game interview with the Fox News channel, AD gave a detailed interview about what he thinks about his performances. Unfettered by his resurgence this season, Anthony Davis seems to have an almost Zen like attitude.

Melissa Rohlin, NBA reporter for Fox got him for an exclusive, and he was neutral about his performances. “I’m my own biggest critic,” He said, adding that if they continued playing this way, they’d be really good.

Last season, his stock plummeted, and he was no longer ranked among the top 15 players. With good reason, because he set career lows across the board last year. Averaging the fewest points since his second season and the fewest rebounds since his rookie year, AD had a point to prove.

But then it all changed when Darwin Ham was hired. Even before the season started, he said he would make the big man his focal point of attack. Not LeBron James, not Russell Westbrook. And it has worked wonders in the past 10 games.

Scoring 55 points against the Wizards, and 44 points against the Bucks, AD is well and truly at the top of his game.

LeBron James is more than happy to hand over the reins to AD – such is the belief in him

Considering the Lakers hit rock bottom last season, there was nowhere to go but up for him and the team. Russell Westbrook is playing like a 6th man of the year candidate, but the real difference maker has been AD.

Even in their title win in 2020, the focal point was always him. LeBron may have played the role of Point Guard, but all the attacks went through the center. Last season, when he was out, Bron had to play center, and everyone could see how much the team suffered.

The handover is happening as we see. And it remains to be seen if we are witnessing a Lakers legend in the making.
