Lil Wayne now roots for LeBron James because the latter is a Lakers star. However, the two didn’t always have a cordial relationship.

Lil Wayne, considered one of the foremost hip-hop artists of all time, has been a long-time Lakers fan. The New Orleans rapper is quite a well-known fan of the Purple-and-Gold brigade. He’s often been spotted sitting courtside at their games.
Wayne pledged his fandom to Lakers Nation right from the early Kobe-Shaq days. He’s a huge Black Mamba fan. Wayne even released a song titled ‘Kobe Bryant’ in 2009 at the height of the Kobe vs Bron debate. Some of the lyrics go thus
One guy certainly envious of the way Bryant’s played lately
Lebron James
I’ve been recorded saying that
He’s definitely the best player in our league
Um, to me, in my eyes
The best scorer in our league— Amulya Shekhar (@tweet_amulya) April 17, 2023
Lil Wayne Dissed LeBron James, Miami Heat after leaving a Heat vs Lakers game
Wayne was in attendance at the American Airlines Arena during a Lakers-Heat game before the All-Star break in 2013. Despite a 28-point, 9-assists showing by Kobe Bryant, the Lakers lost the game 107-97.
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade combined for 62 points on 24-of-36 shooting that day. This loss put the Heat clearly on top of the East, while the Lakers remained 4 losses under .500.
At around halftime of the game, Wayne left the arena after being encountered by arena security. He later claimed that he had been forcibly evicted from the stands, though the Heat denied these accusations.
About a week later, Wayne let loose about his experience at the arena during a concert in Houston. He claimed:
“If you was watching the All-Star events and you was wondering ‘Damn, why I don’t see Weezy there’? I just wanna let y’all know that the NBA banned me from all NBA events.”

“It’s because the Miami Heat told them to ban me. When I say ‘F**k’, you say ‘NBA’! F**k LeBron James, f**k Sheeman, f**k Chris Bosh, f**k all of them! And I f**ked Chris Bosh’s wife.”
Wayne has come around to admire LeBron since he’s become a Laker
LeBron James going to the Lakers sounded like quite a far-fetched proposition until Kyrie’s departure from Cleveland. However, when it became clear that the Cavs wouldn’t be able to surround James with enough talent for a championship run, his path became amply clear.
Once James was a Hollywood resident and helped the city to a championship in his second season, the likes of Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg and other star Lakers fans took a liking to King James.
