Though Giannis Antetokounmpo will enter unrestricted free agency in the 2021 offseason, his sweepstakes have already begun. Following their loss in 5 games at the hands of the Heat in the 2nd round, the league believes Giannis is up for grabs.
The 2-time MVP has been linked to a multitude of teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Golden State Warriors, and now the most persistent of them all, the Miami Heat.
It is becoming increasingly more apparent teams might not make a play for Giannis this year. Instead of unloading an insane trade package for him, they will simply allow him to become a UFA next season.
Giannis hints towards a move to the Miami Heat
In a move that could very well emulate what Kevin Durant did in 2016, Giannis might join the team who beat him. The Miami Heat have been thought to lead the Giannis sweepstakes for a while now.
Recently, Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios asked Giannis about a potential move to South Beach. According to Nick, when Giannis heard the word Miami, his face lit up in excitement, and sported a massive smile.
“I just asked him straight away if he was going to go join Miami, and then he had a massive smile on his face.”

This could only mean positive things for the Heat, as they prepare to keep cap space cleared for the Greek Freak.
Would Giannis fit well on the Heat’s current roster?
The Heat were a team that were in essence, designed to beat Giannis. It was apparent he could not do much when the paint was clogged with multiple bodies. The Heat also bolster a very switchable roster, on defense.
The Heat would be a perfect fit for Giannis though. This is of course if the Heat do not trade any piece away. With ample amount of floor spacing, Giannis’s drives to the basket will almost always result in a bucket or an open shot.
