NBA analyst Chris Broussard recently called out veteran coach Gregg Popowich for Team USA’s poor performance in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

After being defeated by France in Game One of the group stage, Team USA bounced back, defeating Iran 120-66 in the second match of the group stage.
This has definitely brought a sigh of relief to head coach Popowich and co. The 3x NBA coach of the year has been under major scrutiny recently for the poor performance of Team USA. Their first loss against France marked an end to their 24-games winning streak in the Olympics.
With reports circulating of players being upset with coach Pop, things don’t look that good for the 5x NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs.
As per reports, ” Popovich is horrified by his own record coaching this team. He dwells on it and hates the losing. The players are frustrated, too, grumbling on their way back to the locker room about ‘running the San Antonio offense’ when apparently they feel like there are better ideas.”
Recently, Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard called Popowich the worst one of the worst international coaches ever.
Chris Broussard blasts Team USA head coach Gregg Popowich for the team’s poor run internationally
Broussard didn’t mince words while talking about coach Pop’s stint with Team USA,
“I’ve always said Gregg Popovich is one of the greatest NBA coaches in history but he’s also one of the worst international coaches. I’m not going to write Team USA off completely. But I might be surprised if they win the gold, more so than if they lose it.”

Pop has rather had a lukewarm record after he took Team USA’s reigns from veteran coach Mike Krzyzewski, who had a 24-0 record in the Olympics, while coach Pop is already 10-5.
There is no denying that the Spurs coach is one of the greatest coaches in the league history. Coach Pop’s record with the San Antonio Spurs is phenomenal, 1310-653 in the regular season and 170-114 in the post-season.
However, the veteran has been unable to replicate his NBA season success in international tournaments.
