Having Threatened to Punch Scottie Pippen Over Michael Jordan Comments, Shaquille O’Neal Recalls 7x All-Star’s Poster on Patrick Ewing

Despite winning six Championships together, Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan aren’t exactly the best of friends. In fact, over the past few years, Pippen has dissed his former teammate on numerous occasions. Shaquille O’Neal had come to Jordan’s defense against Pippen’s comments, even threatening to punch the latter in his throat. However, O’Neal recently tipped his hat to Scottie Pippen by sharing an old clip of the Bulls forward dunking on Patrick Ewing during the 1994 Playoffs.

Following the 1993 Championship win, Jordan announced his retirement from basketball. With the 6-foot-6 Shooting Guard out of the roster, Pippen took on the leadership role. In the absence of MJ, he went on to have the best season of his 17-year career. The two-way star lodged a staggering 22 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 2.9 steals per game stat line as he went on to lead the Chicago side to the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.

Even though the Bulls fell short of the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Pippen had one of the most iconic dunks of all time in that series.

In Game 6 of the Bulls-Knicks series, Pippen had a quite outing in terms of scoring. Even though Phil Jackson’s boys were comfortably in the lead, the Bulls leader’s offensive output was subpar. However, at one point in the clash, the 6-foot-8 Forward would go on to shock Ewing. Receiving a pass from Pete Myers in transition, Pippen would leap high and dunk all over the 7-feet Ewing.

After slamming the dunk, the seven-time All-Star would shove Ewing to the ground and shout at him while standing over his body. He would also have a brief exchange with Knicks’ die-hard fan Spike Lee. The antics would eventually result in the Bulls star receiving a technical foul.

Scottie Pippen and Jordan’s relationship has deteriorated

The two Hall-Of-Famers shared the best moments of their careers as teammates. While Jordan and Pippen were never the best of friends, recent activities suggest that the two are not even on speaking terms.

While His Airness has stayed silent on the matter in the last couple of years, Pippen has publicly criticized the former on numerous occasions. Apart from referring to Michael as a “selfish” player, the 57-year-old recently went on a rant calling him a “horrible player”. The source of the beef seems to be the representation of Scottie Pippen and the other Bulls players as Michael Jordan’s supporting cast in Netflix’s The Last Dance.

Many believe that Larsa Pippen’s relationship with Marcus Jordan, Michael’s younger son, has further aggravated the fracture in Scottie and Mike’s relationship. Whatever the true reason may be, it is sad to see their bond deteriorate.
