Shaq’s physical presence is also the subject of many jokes, and he often pokes fun at himself. Shaq’s quick wit and ability to come up with clever nicknames have endeared him to fans and fellow players alike.
Another aspect of Shaq’s comical personality is his love of pranks. He has been known to pull elaborate practical jokes on his teammates, coaches, and even reporters.
One famous example occurred during a post-game interview when Shaq snuck up behind Charles Barkley and started licking his head like ice cream.
These moments are not hard to find when the 3 Musketeers team up with Ernie Johnson for an ‘Inside the NBA’ show. The laughter flows freely, as do the statistically-unsound arguments about teams they haven’t watched in action all season long.
Shaquille O’Neal recounts how he got through an SAT examination on pure guesswork
Shaq released the latest episode of The Big Podcast last night. He discussed the Rudy Gobert incident, the upcoming play-in games, and a lot more this time around.
Nischelle Turner, Shaq and Spice Adams were joined by Jeremy Piven in the latter half of the show. The Entourage actor spoke about how he was affected by the cerebal nature of Shaq’s former star teammate, Kobe Bryant.
Shaq divulged something about himself that instantly put us on tenterhooks with laughter:
“A lot of people don’t know, Kobe made 1700 on the SAT. (He was) Very smart. He was a nerd, and I hope people don’t think I’m being disrespectful. Kobe was very smart, very intelligent – all As throughout high school.”
“When I heard he made 1700 on his SATs, I’m like ‘Damn, I made 680 on my SATs!’ I did, I failed it twice. (If) you don’t get 700 on your SATs, you don’t play (college basketball). I made a 680 twice.”
“I took the ACT – rhyme style – and I made a 23. You know what that is, rhyme style? Rhyme style is when I get there, I’m thinking ‘I’m probably not going to pass this’. So I was like ‘A to the B, this one’s C, this one’s D now bring it to an E’.”
“You know those guys who come in and say you’ve got 40 minutes to do the math thing? I get mine done in 10 minutes and I slam it down on the table, let everybody know I’m smart.”
Shaq eventually went on to obtain a doctorate
O’Neal was chastized by his mother Lucile O’Neal and his financial advisors, who pushed him to finish his education. Thus, O’Neal did summer school during his Lakers tenure to finish his undergraduate degree from LSU.
Soon after, Shaq also obtained a postgraduate degree from the University of Phoenix in 2005. By 2012, he’d obtained a P.hD from Barry University – just a year after his professional retirement.
While Shaq definitely does not make very bright comments regularly, he’s undoubted got some academic credentials that he should be very proud of.
