"I wanted Luka to be first signee of Team LeBron": Lakers' LeBron James reveals botched plans of personal brand

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is one of LeBron James’ favorite players in the league right now

The 21-year-old Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic has been in the headlines of late. The first big thing was Mavericks exercising the team option on the 4th year of Doncic’s rookie contract. This means Luka has a guaranteed $10.17 million salary for the upcoming season. Luka also was in the headlines because of a potential Nikola Jokic team-up tease that he gave on Media day.

Luka Doncic has more reasons to be happy. The King, LeBron James himself called Luka one of his favorite players. LeBron says this is because of the way Luka plays the game. He puts his team first, but when needed, he can score any number of points needed as well.

LeBron James wanted to launch Team LeBron with Luka at the forefront

Last season, Luka Doncic was about to sign with Nike. There were a lot of complications, which ended with Luka signing a 5 year, 7 figure deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand. LeBron James recalls the struggles and how he felt bad for Luka struggling for the deal. LeBron says it made him want to launch ‘Team LeBron’ with Nike and sign Luka as his first player.

Unfortunately, LeBron’s team at Nike did not find the idea of launching ‘Team LeBron’ right at that time. LeBron doesn’t know whether Luka knew about the same, but he believes after this interview, Luka would. LeBron’s faith in Luka is so high that it ‘haunts’ him.

“That’s how much I believe in him, and I feel like it’s going to haunt me a little bit. But I wanted him to be my guy, I wanted him to be my first guy because I just love what he stands for. I love everything about him both on the court and off the court. He’s just a great guy.”

Luka Doncic to face LeBron James for an epic Christmas battle

Everyone wants to see Luka and LeBron on the court together after this interview. Fortunately, we wouldn’t have to wait very long for the same. The Mavericks face off against the Lakers for the 4th Christmas match out of the 5 set on Christmas.

It would be an amazing duel between the young Luka and King James as both would look to give their team the edge on Christmas day.
