"I Was a Kobe Bryant Guy": Despite Disliking LeBron James, 22 y/o Pelicans Guard Was Surprised by Lakers' Superstar's Kindness

LeBron James has been in the league since 2003. Watching James dominate with his athleticism, it is often easy to forget that the only player in the league now who is older than James is Andre Iguodala. So, naturally, many of the youngsters grew up either idolizing James or hating him. Surprisingly, Trey was one of those who wasn’t the biggest LeBron fan but instead loved Kobe Bryant. However, once Trey played against the 6ft 9″ Lakers superstar, his perception of James changed. Apparently, even after the Lakers lost, LBJ happily posed for a picture with Trey Murphy’s mother.

LeBron James is easily one of the nicest, most well-behaved athletes in the league. Unlike the new generation of stars, he became a pro right after high school. This allowed him absolutely no space to grow into the role that was shoved on him.

Yet, James blossomed perfectly. He has become a star who is known for treating fans and opponents with respect. He never publicly feuds with anybody and never responds to analysts crossing the line. When he met Trey on the court, he showed him a similar kindness and a touch of classiness that makes a star likable.

LeBron James posed for a picture for Trey Murphy’s mother

On the recent episode of JJ Redick’s The Old Man and the Three podcast, Trey Murphy was a guest. He was asked about his first proper interaction with LBJ and Trey had an interesting story to share.

Apparently, while growing up, he had been a huge Kobe Bryant fan. Therefore, he wasn’t too fond of LeBron. But in his first season, he played against the Lakers while the play-in picture was in question.

His perception of James, however, changed during the game. Despite losing the game to the Pelicans, when Trey Murphy asked LeBron to take a picture with his mother because it was her birthday, he obliged.

“Mainly, I was a Kobe Bryant guy…” Murphy continued, “It was my mom’s birthday and my mom loves LeBron. And I asked him, I was like, ‘Can you take a picture with my mom, it’s her birthday.’ And he was very nice to take a picture with her.”

LeBron is all set to face the Warriors

The rivalry between LeBron James and the Warriors squad has dominated much of the past decade. Their countless battles on the court, especially the Finals hold a legendary status among fans.

Now, another such iconic series awaits. Only this time, James will be geared up in purple and gold. The upcoming series can go either way because both teams have shown exceptional talent. That is what makes the series so much interesting.
