"They're chanting 'Kevin Durant sucks' for the right reasons": Joel Embiid defends Sixers fans for hilarious 'KD sucks' chant during their game against Nets

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant was subjected to hilarious jeer by Philadelphia 76ers fans during Joel Embiid’s free throw.

Philadelphia is known as the city of brotherly love. But, fans of the 76ers are more known for their mentality to suffocate the opponent as best as they can. Truly, all the love goes straight out of the window.

Any opposition player can be targeted, whether on the court or off it. And it seems Kevin Durant was given a harsh reminder of just that while Joel Embiid attempted a free throw.

The Slim Reaper wasn’t even playing in this clash. He has been dealing with a whole assortment of niggling injuries throughout the season, and the day of this game was no different.

But while Embiid was taking a free throw, fans started to chant “KD sucks” out of nowhere, absolutely unprompted. Durant was understandably confused, and reacted hilariously at the time.

After the game though, when Joel Embiid was asked about the incident, he delivered a very interesting response to the media.

Joel Embiid backs 76ers fans up on their chant targeting Kevin Durant

Many players have been vocal about sorely missing fans in their arenas. So, when even a few thousand were allowed to return, it would have brought a smile on quite a few of the players’ faces.

Several analysts have explained that this is exactly what the fans are there to do. Getting under the skin of their opposition no matter what is precisely their role. And it seems Joel Embiid agrees completely with this opinion. The following were his thoughts on the chants targeted at Kevin Durant during the game.

“When you play in Philly, they’re going to push you…in Philly that’s played a huge role in how dominant we’ve been at home. You don’t want to get booed…. Whether they’re booing or whether they’re cheering, I know it’s for the right reasons.”

Joel Embiid really has pulled a serious Joel Embiid type move here. Not only has he chosen not to extinguish the situation, but has actively chosen to double down on his fans’ actions.

This is almost guaranteed to make the next meeting between these franchises a far spicier affair. And we are absolutely here for it.
